That is really lovely, as always. Good to see the package design on the Macs staying at a high level. As iPod boxes have gotten smaller and smaller, while it's great from an environmental standpoint, the unwrapping experience has gotten a bit duller.

Then again, what's inside the package has gotten a lot more interesting, so maybe there's something there.

This package is getting smaller and smaller too...

Includes a keyboard too? Did the PowerBooks do that too?

Macs: Even the boxes they come in make news :)

I think the keyboard is just in the picture. I cant see why Apple would include a keyboard with the MacBook

I also think that the quality of the packaging on the new MBP looks awesome. The little circular divots add a very... futuristic feel. Maybe I am just imagining it. However, does anyone else think that the AC adapter looks a little large?

Also, regarding Matt Thomas' comment on iPod packaging: I totally agree! I'd expect the Nano to have smaller packaging but the iPod Video too? Sacrilege! There aren't even AC adapters included with iPods anymore. How do people charge their iPods? For the majority of people in the world who do not leave their computers on for more than 4 hours per day... how can they possibly get a full charge?

Oh, just found another site that has the same pictures on it. However, it also includes a very interesting shot of the underside of the MacBook.

very neat, I do so love the apple packaging, it makes opening it a little bit more fun, instead of getting out the scissors and tearing through some cardboard.

How on earth is this news? It's a box, people. What's inside may be the most awesome thing in the history of the multiverse, but the outside is just cardboard with some pretty pictures on it. Instead of staring at the funky image of a MacBook, why not open the damn thing and use the real thing?

"How on earth is this news?"

Because people are excited about it, and have been waiting for it to ship for a month?

Are you telling me you've been waiting a month so you could look at your pretty cardboard box? I admit, it is sexy, but c'mon...

I'm always amazed with the elegance of Apple's packaging. I can't think of any other company that envisions the opening of their products as an experience unto itself. It's practically a form of performance art. Good times! :-)

The box is thinner! Wow!!!! But the AC adapter is so humongous. I'd love to see the same design, but let the plug swivel 90° to clear up space.

To non-Mac folk, a box is just a box. But to those who have been initiated and call themselves a Mac Zealot, the packaging adds to the mystique of the machine. It isn't just cardboard. It is well designed packaging. When was the last time a PC user opened up their machine and were impressed with the care that the manufacturer took in making you believe that you were special. It is like joining a new club...

To those who do not think that this is news... I think the first shots of the production Macbook (not prototype) and the packaging is at least worthy of some attention.

The cool box is all about attention to detail. In a time when so much packaging is hard to use, or badly designed it's just great to see a company spending time thinking about how their customers receive the goods and that initial impression. It's only worth commenting on because so much of what we use is fairly thoughtlessly put together

Obviously everything Mac related must receive the fullest amount of attention, and in the most respectful hagiographic way possible. Anyone who doesn't belive that must not be cool, and enjoy the colour beige far too much.

You've also got to remember that the majority of the folks who design those cardboard boxes with pretty pictures (graphic designers) are dyed-in-the-wool Mac users. And since Apple's graphic design is, at least for the past 7-8 years, very, very good, that's a big part of the attraction.

I believe that smaller Apple boxes for all products are RIDICULOUS.

a student pays a months of pocket money for an iPod, and he gets a piece of cardboard that barely covers the iPod as packaging.

                            environmentally friendly?

the box can't protect the iPod when being moved around in warehouses, and we receive lemons as a result.

when we receive lemons, they get repaired, parts are replaced, and old parts which are potentially more dangerous to the earth, are dumped to destroy the earth.

                            how environmetal friendly.

Yes, i hate the smaller boxes, but i still love their designs.

For those who were wanting to know about the battery life, there's a post here that puts it at "3:31, with Normal consumption settings". And yes, the A/C Adaptor appears to be about 25% bigger than the current PB adaptor, much the same size as an Airport, apparently.
